Downing College are delighted to have won one of the Wildlife Trust 2018 Gardening at Work Awards which recognise efforts by corporate members to encourage wildlife on their premises. The four catergories, judged by Bernard Hunt from Hunts Wildlife Landscape, were Best Wildlife Garden, Best Employee Engagement, Best Use of Recycled Materials and Best Wildlife Sighting.
Head Gardener, Jack Sharp, who took the photograph of the sparrow hawk one morning in the Fellows’ Garden; “Downing College is set in 20 acres of gardens and woodland providing a rich diversity of flora and a wide range of different wildlife, in spite of our city centre location. Although we hear the sparrow hawks, we don’t often see them so I was lucky to capture this image!”
