Prof Trevor Walker is a retired bio-chemist alumni, who's research in 1957 lead to the discovery of the benefits of chemicals produced by a particular daffodil bulb in the treatment of Alzheimer's disease and brain tumors. The variety: 'Downing Narcissus' is registered with the Royal Horticultural Society.

These daffodils were in the Master's and Fellows' Gardens until their flower beds were dug up and grassed over a few years ago.

Prof Trevor Walker very kindly visited Downing to deliver 20 precious bulbs handing these to Head Gardener, Jack Sharp. The gardening team will propagate them to spread them out across the college in due course. We look forward to seeing the new daffodils in their full bloom.
