Downing College wins prestigious RIBA architecture award

Caruso St. John Architects have won a coveted RIBA award for their restoration work on the Hall at Downing College, Cambridge. The awards dinner will take place on 24 September 2010 at Downing College in the award-winning Hall itself.

The £1.2 million Hall renovation project aimed to combine the neo-classical design influence of Downing's first architect, William Wilkins with a modern and flexible facility to serve the College, its students, visitors and guests. The space features under-floor heating, an acoustic ceiling and panelling, and newly designed chandeliers.

RIBA awards have been given annually since 1966 to honour architectural excellence and to recognize substantial contributions to the local environment.
